Quick Look: Bookworm
This is the second instalment to the Quick Look series. Last time we looked at Shadowtale , a flash based MMO, but this time I wanted to look at one of my favourite casual games. Bookworm is a wordplay game made by Pop Cap. Pop Cap makes all kinds of fun casual games including the famous Facebook game Bejeweled Blitz . Pop Cap makes most of their games for more than one platform. You can play Bookworm online or download it for your phone, PC or Mac. Being both a writer and a gamer, I find this game seriously addictive. My wife and I can sit for hours playing Bookworm .
The game itself is pretty simple but also a great time waster. It combines scrabble and a match game. You’re given a board covered in letter tiles. You create words by using letters that touch each other. Once the word has been formed it flies into the bookworm ’s mouth, disappearing off the board. Any letters above the word you formed drop down, filling up the space. New letters are added at the top of the board. Each word awards you points. Once you get enough points then you go to the next level. Your points are shown as books that fill the shelf above the bookworm. The goal is to fill the shelf.
